UNIFOR RETURNS TO THE MASTERS INDIGENOUS GAMES

Canada’s largest private-sector union returns as a community partner of the 2025 Masters Indigenous Games.
Mississauga, Ontario — March 21, 2025 — The Masters Indigenous Games organizing committee is proud to announce that Unifor will return as a partner of the Masters Indigenous Games (MIG).
“We are grateful for Unifor’s continued support, as it has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the participants and the broader Indigenous community from previous MIGs,” said Marc Laliberte, honorary chair of the Games for MIG 2025.
Unifor’s unwavering ongoing commitment to the Masters Indigenous Games is a testament to their dedication to fostering community partnerships. Their support not only amplifies the significance of this event but also highlights the power of collaboration in promoting Indigenous culture, sports, and unity.
Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO) is the official Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body (P/TASB) for Ontario and consistently delivers outstanding sporting and cultural events. ISWO successfully hosted the Masters Indigenous Games in Toronto in 2018 and in Ottawa in 2023.
“Unifor is excited to support the Masters Indigenous Games. The Games are known for excellence in sports but they also celebrate the deep cultural ties and community spirit that unites us all,” said Gina Smoke, Director of Indigenous Relations at Unifor.
Unifor represents over 315,000 workers across Canada, making it the country’s largest private-sector labour union. Unifor’s community-rooted mandate emphasizes the values of each individual member’s contributions. Unifor comprises 29 sectors with over 2,800 bargaining units to support its diverse membership.
