CELEBRATING ARCTIC HERITAGE: NEW EVENT COMING TO MIG 2025

Arctic sports is bringing a new dimension to the 2025 Masters Indigenous Games.
Mississauga, Ontario March 5, 2025 — The Masters Indigenous Games are thrilled to announce that Arctic sports will be joining the sport and cultural lineup at the 2025 Masters Indigenous Games.
The following events will take place as a part of the Arctic Games competition at MIG 2025: one foot high kick, scissor broad jump, Alaskan high kick, two-foot high kick, Dene stick pull, Inuit stick pull, and seal hop/knuckle hop.
This addition of Arctic Games to the MIG 2025 lineup will celebrate the rich cultural heritage and traditional sports of Indigenous peoples from the Arctic regions. Participants and spectators alike will have the opportunity to experience these unique athletic events. The Arctic Games will foster greater understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, while also providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage.
“It is truly significant to see our Indigenous sport uplifted on the global stage at the Master Indigenous Games. Arctic Sports are more than just physical competitions; they carry deep cultural significance, telling the story of the Inuit and Dene People’s resilience, survival, and connection to the land and community,” said Kyle Worl.
“Arctic Sports stand out in that athletes are not solely focused on winning, but on working together to achieve their personal best. This reflects the games’ origins as a means of survival and training for hunters, where success depended on teamwork and collective effort,” he continued.
